Doomsday 1 challenge:
Team: Seth, Jacob, Joshua and Tyler
Plan: our team has to use maths and science to stop the asteroid and save the earth from extinction!
Problem: In a year an asteroid the size of the U.S.A is going to hit near the city of Auckland NZ!
Research: Asteroid impact avoidance comprises a number of methods by which near-Earth objects could be diverted, preventing potentially catastrophic impact events. A sufficiently large impact would cause massive tsunamis or (by placing large quantities of dust into the stratosphere, blocking sunlight) an impact winter, or both. A collision between the Earth and a ~10km object 65 million years ago is believed to have produced the Chicxulub Crater and the Cretaceous–Paleogene extinction event. link to site http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Asteroid_deflection_strategies
Ideas: Giant mining laser?
Atomic bomb ?
A great start, boys!
ReplyDeleteHave you been taking photos, audio and visual recordings of your progress?
Thanks for all of the links! I can see you are researching. Are you connecting with outside experts too?
ReplyDeleteYes I have but none have replied. :(
DeleteGreat Tyler
ReplyDeleteYour plan is so cool and I hope that it will work.
Were you suprised to get a comment from KevinHoneycutt?
