Research on Russia
Geographic facts about Russia
The largest country in the world, Russia constitutes one-seventh of the world’s landmass and spans eight time zones. This expansive area allows it to neighbor more countries than anywhere else on earth, as well as touch twenty-two bodies of water and hold twelve seas within its borders. Its vast and complicated array of landscapes has created a diverse blend of forty national parks alongside its forty UNESCO Biosphere Reserves. Here you can find the oldest mountains in the world, the Urals, and the deepest lake in the world, Lake Baikal. Travel from the tundra to the steppes, the desert to the glaciers, the valleys to the volcanoes without ever needing a new visa.Climatic facts about Russia
Because of its size, Russia presents a drastically different atmosphere depending on your location. Most of the country has a continental climate with distinct periods of warm and cold weather that increases as you travel east. Temperatures for Moscow and St. Petersburg range from highs of 32 C in the summer to lows of -25 C in the winter.Demographic facts about Russia
Russia has a population of 145.5 million people, 80% of whom reside in Western Russia and two-thirds of whom live in cities. Moscow alone claims eleven million citizens, standing as the largest city in Europe. St. Petersburg boasts less than half that, with a mere five million residents. 1 in 4 Russians is retired, with the average age being 30 years old and growing every year. The normal Russian family consists of three people.Russia city Photo from google imagesTuesday, 4 December 2012

because it's hard to figure out when to get it on.
· Something I was pleased with was that everyone had fun. because It,s good that everyone has fun
· I really enjoyed learning what it was about it because its really interesting.
· Something I found hard was getting the table on in time in my part.
· Something that made me think was getting the table on at the right time...

· Something I want to get better at is not being shy,

Dooms day 1!
Doomsday 1 challenge:
Team: Seth, Jacob, Joshua and Tyler
Plan: our team has to use maths and science to stop the asteroid and save the earth from extinction!
Problem: In a year an asteroid the size of the U.S.A is going to hit near the city of Auckland NZ!
Research: Asteroid impact avoidance comprises a number of methods by which near-Earth objects could be diverted, preventing potentially catastrophic impact events. A sufficiently large impact would cause massive tsunamis or (by placing large quantities of dust into the stratosphere, blocking sunlight) an impact winter, or both. A collision between the Earth and a ~10km object 65 million years ago is believed to have produced the Chicxulub Crater and the Cretaceous–Paleogene extinction event. link to site http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Asteroid_deflection_strategies
Ideas: Giant mining laser?
Atomic bomb ?

Letter to V.M Jones
Dear Mrs Jones
My name is Tyler. I think your book is touching and funny. I was astounded by your book. Buddy. My favourite part was when Josh described Chantel really well. When I grow up, I want to be an author like you.
You are a great author. I love writing, it is my favourite subject at school. How long did it take you to write this? Please can you give me some tips? I would love it if you could. My favourite chapters were The dream, going for gold and the end of the race.
When my class started reading this book I didn’t want to put it down. Your book inspired me to write stories with races, romance and other things too. Could you write another story about Buddy? My school is Parkvale and my class would like it if you came to our class.
Thanks Tyler
